Tuscany Castle Accommodation. Castello di Marcialla

Information Request MARCIALLA CASTLE: The 'Castello di Marcialla' has its origin in the 13th century and was owned by some of the most important tuscan families. Farinata degli Uberti (who is even mentioned in Dante’s 'Divina Commedia'), his brother Pietro detto Asino (donkey), an officer of Manfred of Hohenstaufen King of Napels, then the Canigiani family, from which came Petrarca’s mother, the Giugnis and the counts Capponi. In 1988 it was bought and restored by the actual owner.
The property is extended over 150 acres and the main production are Toscana IGT wines, Chianti Colli Fiorentini 'Titolato' and extravergine olive oil. The Distilleria Bonollo from Greve in Chianti produces, using the fresh skins of pressed grapes of the Castle wines, a soft Grappa with a rich flavour.

ACCOMODATION: The big farmhouse beside the castle has been transformed into six appartments elegantly furnished and with all modern comforts (independent heating and warm water, direct phone, satellite-TV etc.), but keeping the atmosphere of the ancient tuscan country houses. On cooler days you can light the fireplace, read a good book or simply chat drinking a good glass of Rubicondo. In an adjacent building is a heated swimming pool only in certain periods connected in summertime with an outdoor pool. The Sala della Cinta can be organised for guest dinner parties up to twenty people, where you can taste the specialities and the wines of Tavolese.

WHERE WE ARE: Take the highway A1 direction FIRENZE and exit at FIRENZE CERTOSA (km 296 - it is the second exit if you come from Rome and the second from Milan). Then take the highway to SIENA and exit at TAVARNELLE V.P. (the third exit), you turn left towards the village (about 5km), turn around (the street right at the beginning of the village) it and then turn right direction MARCIALLA; after 4 km you reach the village. In Marcialla you drive on the square, pass the church and after about 2 km on the right hand side is the entrance of Castello di Marcialla.
