Where can you go? Listed below are the top 5 locations for the summer in Tuscany.
1 – Argentario
If you love the seaside, you have to choose the south of the region, close to the borders with Lazio, easily accessible from Rome too. The shore surrounding the Argentario’s promontory is of an unmatchable beauty, and is located within the Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano. You can choose to relax in a resort just on the seaside, with private access to the beach, without anybody disturbing you. Now and again you could rent a yacht for visiting the near islands (Giglio, Pianosa, Giannutri, Capraia…) and have a bath in one of the few bays, where you will be the unique guest along with the seagulls. Otherwise a bit of practice at the Golf Court 18holes of 77 hectares, or a day into a Spa will not allow you to get bored.
2 – The Versilia
Another beautiful seaside location in Tuscany, but with a different target from the previous one is the Versilia. So “wild” is the Maremma, so fashionable is the Versilia. The north coast of Tuscany is the attractive center for VIPs of the international jet set since long time, and the town of Forte dei Marmi, that right this year will celebrate its centenary, is called “the gem of Versilia”.
Here you will find stylish clubs and discotheques, stunning beach resorts, villa surrounded by the green and shops of the main brands for the shop addicted. And if you will look around you might have the chance to spot the football player, the politician or the actress of the moment. When you will get fed up of so much worldliness, make a tour in the inland, on the Apuane Alps, with its mines inspirations for artists since centuries (the block of marble used by Michelangelo to create the David is coming from these mines), join one of the tournament organized by the local tennis clubs, otherwise pick up your bicycle and ride around the surrounding areas.
3 - Bolghieri
The image of the path with cypress on both sides (5km!) that head to the Bolgheri’s castle is as famous as its wines, produced in the same area; Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia are well-known name, not only by the wine industry specialist.
Sleeping in a Relais located in the hills surrounding this area, will allow you to put together relaxing moments with high level of wine-and-food itinerary. The weather, ventilated and temperate, that helps the growth of refined vineyards, will make your stay pleasant during the warm summer. Book a private tour of 3 hrs in the Tenuta dell’Ornellaia for visiting the wine cellars, the vineyards and tasting the famous wines - Le Volte dell’Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia, Ornellaia – and, why not, have a lunch made just for you by the chef of the house. Moreover you are 10min away from the sea!
4 – Siena’s province
It’s extended around the historic town surrounded by its old walls. Walking away from the Tower of Mangia, the nature become the main character, shaping the territory in an incredible way. 5 – The Chianti
The English have re-named it the Chiantishire. The area between Florence and Siena is a unique place, where nature and mankind come together to make something special. The best way to spend a holiday there is rent a villa made from an old farmhouse, wherever within the Chianti, anyway all is near to Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, and Pisa…the most famous Italian art cities are all less than 1hr driving far. During the day a sweet laze about around the swimming pool, and when it gets cooler, get the way and go by car, bicycle or motorbike, whatsoever. Some routes? Rent a Ferrari and try your ability to drive along the Via Chiantigiana, or feel the experience of Dolce Vita and ride an authentic Vespa, discovering at every turn a town, a church, or a vineyards.
I suggest to have as a starting point always Florence, with an accommodation near the train station Santa Maria Novella. Look some good accommodations in Florence Here: FlorenceApartmentsMM and here ApartmentsinFlorence
